The LPFD is pleased to announce a significant achievement for Battalion Chief Bill Murphy.
While Bill is an active officer with the LPFD his Full-Time profession is in law enforcement. Bill is the Detective Sergeant with the Borough of Bridgeport Police Department.
On June 23, 2025 at the Green Valley Country Club Det/Sgt Murphy received the prestigious " Honorable Louis D. Stefan Law Enforcement Award", presented by the Montgomery County Bar Association in recognition of a member of law enforcement who goes above and beyond in promoting the rule of law.
The Borough of Bridgeport Chief of Police Todd Bereda stated at this presentation that " Det/Sgt. Murphy's drive for excellence, both inside and outside of our agency, shows what a tremendous asset he is."
The member of the LPFD echo Chief Bereda's statement, this is evident during every call, training, and event that Bill is apart of. This is most evident in his prominent and constant role in his support of the Montgomery County's Hero fund in addition to his work and volunteer duties.
The Montgomery Bar Foundation (MBF) is the charitable arm of the Montgomery Bar Association (MBA). The MBA is made up of members who are attorneys that practice and/or live in Montgomery County.
It has been the MBF's goal to advance the cause of justice for over 30 years. Every year, the MBF gives monetary grants to Montgomery County non-profit organizations whose mission is to provide access to justice to the citizens of Montgomery County. By way of brief examples, grantees include The Laurel House and Montgomery Child Advocacy Project. The MBF's charitable efforts are funded by the MBA members through a fellows program.
In addition to the program, the MBF awards two individuals in the community who go above and beyond the call of duty to make a difference in the lives of others.
Judge Stefan was a Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas Judge who was killed in 1994. He was known for his sharp legal mind, commitment to upholding the law, as well as having a great sense of humor.
The Honorable Louis D. Stefan Award is given, on merit, to a law enforcement official who goes well beyond the scope of their duties in promoting the rule of law and administration of justice. |
