| Yesterday members of the LPFD spent the day learning to safely and efficiently operate our new ATV. An instructor from Emergency Services Insurance Program (ESIP) our insurance carrier spent the morning going over safety considerations and procedures for this unit. The class then transitioned into proper maintenance procedures and members went over fluid checks, proper tire pressures, and other important features.
The remainder of the day was spent practicing the lessons learned and placing this into effect. Members took turns completing stations using the ATV, driving with and without water, as well as practicing backing the new trailer that this unit will be stored and deployed from.
Crews will continue to practice and get proficient before placing these units into service.
Thank you to Montgomery County Department of Public Safety for allowing us the use of one of your ATV's to keep class moving, and allowing more hands on experience for our members. Additional thanks to Lower Providence Township Emergency Management for allowing us the usage of one of their trailers.
Huge thank you to Smith Marine for their excellent work getting our unit upfitted and ready for service, TP Trailers for being easy to work with and for their professional job on our new enclosed trailer, and a special thank you to General Insurance for providing us this valuable training and for providing lunch to our members during the long and humid day.
Lettering and warning lights as well as equipment mounting both for the ATV and trailer are forthcoming over the next few weeks.
Early surprise: For those that read our entire post, tomorrow we anticipate taking delivery of the New Engine 53 a 2025 Pierce Engine. Hose packing will begin tomorrow afternoon, so stay tuned for pictures and updates! |
