| On Friday October 17th Station 53 was dispatched as one of two RIT units on the Working Fire Dispatch for a Commercial Building Fire in an Auto Body Shop on Front Street . Tower 53 responded with a crew of 6. Tower 53 was reassigned from the RIT assignment to the 1st Due Truck Company and took up a position on the A/D corner of the structure.
DC53 operating as the LPFD Duty Chief married up with the Tower Crew.
Due to the advanced stage of the fire along with an increasing fire load command ordered a Defensive Operation.
Tower 53 received a 4" supply line from Quint 54 and the crew went into service extinguishing fire from the windows using the bucket mounted master stream. Other members of the crew removed a garage door to allow ground monitors to be placed into service as well.
Once the bulk of the fire was extinguished Tower 53 along with other mutual aid units worked to access pockets of fire from the roof and front of the building while remaining supported in a bucket or on ladders due to weakened roof conditions.
DC53 was reassigned as the C/D Safety Officer and Coordinated with Chief 55 who oversaw the A/B operations.
Utility 53 with a crew of 3 Fire Police officers responded to assist with large area road closures.
Tower 53 was released shortly after 5:30pm. Fire Police remained until they were released shortly after 6:30pm.
