| The Lower Providence Fire Department (LPFD), in partnership with the Township Fire Marshal and the American Red Cross, recently conducted a "Smoke Alarms Save Lives" blitz, installing free smoke alarms in three communities throughout Lower Providence Township.
Approximately 40 volunteers representing the LPFD, Red Cross, and local IBEW came together on Saturday morning, November 1st, 2025, and canvassed these neighborhoods going door to door promoting fire safety. All of these personnel took away from their own lives and personal time to help ensure that our residents are safe, continuing the long standing tradition of promoting fire safety in our community.
This initiative is part of the American Red Cross’s larger Home Fire Campaign, which aims to reduce fire-related deaths and injuries by providing and installing free smoke alarms in residences and educating families on fire safety and escape plans.
"Together, we installed 186 smoke alarms in 74 homes, helping to make 219 lives safer. That’s fantastic success story and a testament to what we can accomplish when we work together", said Kathy Mullen - Southeastern PA Disaster Preparedness Volunteer Partner.
The Lower Providence Fire Department offers this free smoke alarm installation program year-round for residents who cannot afford or are physically unable to install them. Residents in need can request an installation via the form on this website. |
