Sunday Lower Providence Firefighters responded to 9 calls for service.

The day began just before 6:30am with a multi vehicle crash EB on RT 422. Crews arrived and assisted EMS with removing a subject from vehicle that struck a large deer and caused a chain reaction collision. FD personnel created a safe working area, cleaned up debris and fluids, secured the vehicles and cleared the highway to allow traffic to again begin moving around the scene. 1 driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

8:30 am saw the department respond to a Fire Alarm in the Audubon Section of the Township. Alarm determined to be accidental.

Just after 11:30 Tower 53 was dispatched to assist at a house fire in Norristown. Units arrived and staged until released by Command. Norristown units extinguished the fire quickly and the assignment was scaled back.

Shortly past noon the Department was dispatched to the Collegeville Section of the Township for an electrical fire caused by a falling tree. Crews secured the area and extinguished a small brush fire. The road was closed for an extended period of time as PECO needed to remove the wires before the tree could be removed from the roadway.

As crews were clearing this incident County Radio advised of a vehicle collision with entrapment on Audubon Road. DC53 arrived and located a single vehicle collision that involved the vehicle striking a utility pole before rolling onto its side down an embankment and resting against a tree trapping the driver inside.

Rescue 53 arrived and used chain and a winch (Tie Back) to secure the vehicle. Squad 46 was added to the assignment as crews were still clearing the electrical fire in Collegeville Section. Squad 46, Engine 53, Squad 53, Special Service 53 and the Fire Police Unit all arrived on scene and assisted with clearing brush and small trees to access the vehicle where a partial roof removal and flap was performed to access the driver. Fire Police controlled traffic and prepared for a long-term road closure. The patient was removed from the vehicle and loaded into a stokes basket and carried up the small embankment to Lower Providence EMS who transported the occupant to a Trauma Center for treatment.

Exactly 2 hours later Station 53 was dispatched to assist Station 46 with a 2nd elevator rescue in the 8000 block of Sentinel Ridge. All occupants were removed by Jefferson Fire Personnel and Station 53 recalled.

Thankfully the evening was much slower.

At approx. 6:45pm Station 53 was dispatched to Homewood Suites for a Fire Alarm. Engine 53 arrived and located a small stove fire in a 4th floor room. The fire was extinguished prior to FD arrival and smoke was removed using natural
